USC Upstate Names Sarah Gildersleeve Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Enrichment

Spartanburg, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Upstate Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Sarah Gildersleeve as the new Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Enrichment.

"I am so grateful to Daniel Feig and Susannah Waldrop, as well as the search committee, for the confidence in me to continue to build on the successes of the Student-Athlete Enrichment program," said Gildersleeve. "It was apparent throughout the entire interview process that USC Upstate is an exciting place to be and I look forward to working with our student-athletes and coaches to graduate well-developed leaders and ambassadors for USC Upstate."

Before joining the staff at USC Upstate, Gildersleeve served as an Academic Coordinator with the Student-Athlete Services department at Georgia Southern University. Gildersleeve advised the women's soccer, softball and volleyball programs while also serving as a tutor coordinator. While at Georgia Southern, she assisted the athletic department in achieving a cumulative GPA of over 3.0 for three consecutive academic years, which had never been done before in athletics history. Beyond advising, Gildersleeve was involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was a member of the Georgia Southern Advisor Training Committee (GSAT).

"We are thrilled to add Sarah to our athletic academic staff," stated Daniel Feig, USC Upstate Director of Athletics. "The combination of her experience as a student-athlete, collegiate coach and athletic academic advisor stood out and made her the perfect fit for our department. More importantly, her passion for student-athletes and their personal and academic collegiate experience impressed our staff and is consistent with our goal of providing a championship experience on and off the field for all of our student-athletes."

Prior to joining the staff at Georgia Southern, Gildersleeve served as the volleyball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Wofford College. Before joining the Wofford staff, Gildersleeve was at Lindsey Wilson College. She helped coach Lindsey Wilson's volleyball team to a 36-6 record in 2013 highlighted by a 24-0 start. The Blue Raiders won the Mid-South Conference Regular Season championship with a perfect 14-0 record and were ranked as high as eighth nationally in the NAIA. Lindsey Wilson also boasted three NAIA All-Americans in 2013 including one of Gildersleeve's middle blockers.

"We are extremely fortunate to find someone with Sarah's experience and winning attitude," said Susannah Waldrop, Director of USC Upstate's Student Success Center. "She understands what success looks like on the court and in the classroom. I am excited to add her to the academic staff and welcome her to the USC Upstate family."

A native of Raleigh, N.C., Gildersleeve earned a B.S. in sports management from Georgia Southern in 2011 and her M.Ed. in higher education administration in 2017. Gildersleeve is also a member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and Women's Leaders in College Sports.
