Volleyball Preview:  at GATA Challenge

Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate volleyball team will play its final tournament of the year this weekend traveling to Statesboro, Ga. to face the Savannah State Tigers and Georgia Southern Eagles in the GATA Challenge from Hanner Fieldhouse. 

The Spartans will open play with Savannah State on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. followed by a match against Georgia Southern at 6 p.m. USC Upstate then follows on Saturday morning with a matchup versus Savannah State at 9 a.m. 

The Spartans participated in the UNF Invitational last weekend where they faced Furman, North Florida and New Mexico. Emily Russell was named to the UNF Invitational All-Tournament Team after setting new career-highs in kills and digs. Mikenzie Young-Mullins recorded her first career double-double versus New Mexico with new career-highs of 11 kills and 12 digs.

Georgia Southern enters the tournament with a 1-9 overall record while Savannah State is 1-7 on the season.

The Spartans will host High Point on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. from the G.B. Hodge Center.
