No. 24/25 USC Upstate Falls at No. 9 Arizona in Wildcat Invitational Finale

Tucson, Ariz. – The No. 24/25 USC Upstate softball team wrapped up play at the Wildcat Invitational on Sunday afternoon with a 9-1 loss to the ninth-ranked Arizona Wildcats in five innings at Hillenbrand Stadium.

USC Upstate falls to 18-5 on the season while Arizona moves to 21-2 overall.

Scoring Breakdown

  • Top 1stAnsley Gilstrap put the Spartans in the lead, 1-0, after leading off the game with her second home run of the season.
  • Bottom 1st – The Wildcats came back with four runs in their half of the first to go ahead 4-1. Reyna Carranco started the scoring with an RBI double to center field, while Jessie Harper and Dejah Mulipola followed with a pair of home runs.
  • Bottom 3rd – Arizona added a single run to increase its lead to 5-1 on an RBI single to center field by Malia Martinez.
  • Bottom 4th – The Wildcats scored two more runs to go in front 7-1. Carranco recorded an RBI single to right field and Aleah Craighton added an RBI single to left field.
  • Bottom 5th – Ivy Davis concluded the game with her two-RBI double to give Arizona the 9-1 victory.


  • Hannah Bowen (4-1) earned the win throwing all five innings and gave up one run on four hits, one walk and seven strikeouts.
  • Caylie Van Auken (2-2) suffered the loss allowing three runs on three hits, no walks and no strikeouts.
  • Christina Biggerstaff gave up four runs on seven hits, two walks and four strikeouts in four innings of relief.
  • Kori Wancheck threw one inning and surrendered two runs on two hits and one walk.
  • Gilstrap led USC Upstate offensively with a 2-for-3 performance with one RBI and one run scored.
  • Karla Beasley and Logan Morris collected one hit apiece.
  • Carranco, Harper and Martinez recorded two hits each for the Wildcats.
  • Carranco, Harper and Davis all drove in a game-high two RBI.


  • The Spartans open ASUN play March 17-18 hosting Kennesaw State at Cyrill Stadium in a three-game series.
