LakePoint, Ga. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team has been picked to finish in seventh place in a preseason poll of ASUN Conference coaches, the league announced this afternoon.
Upstate earned 19 points in the poll. NJIT was selected to finish in sixth place with 21 points followed by Lipscomb in eighth place team at 14 points. FGCU has been voted the preseason favorite with six first place votes and 62 points. Jacksonville earned two first place votes and was picked to finish in second with 53 points, one point ahead of Stetson in third place.
FGCU's Rosemarie Julien and Stetson's Sarah Sagerer were named the ASUN Preseason Player and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively.
The Spartans were also picked to finish seventh in the media poll between sixth place NJIT and eighth place Lipscomb. FGCU was also chosen as the preseason favorite by league media representatives with 30 first place votes and 310 points.
The 2017-18 season begins on Nov. 10 as the Spartans travel to East Carolina. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 pm.
