Upstate Battles Gardner-Webb on Saturday Afternoon

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team continues its eight-game road trip on Saturday afternoon when it makes the short trip to Boiling Springs, N.C. for a 3 p.m. contest against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs at Paul Porter Arena.

Gardner-Webb is the third straight Big South Conference opponent that Upstate will face this week after traveling to UNC Asheville on Wednesday and dropped an 82-70 decision to the Bulldogs. Ramel Thompkins and Mike Cunningham combined for 28 points offensively while Thomas Booker scored a career-high seven off the bench. Avery Diggs also tied his career-high in rebounds after pulling down a team-leading eight.

Malik Moore is one of five players averaging in double-figures this season with a team-leading 14.6 points per game. Deion Holmes contributes 13.1 points per game, while Cunningham and Thompkins add 12.7 and Jure Span 10.8. Thompkins leads the team defensively averaging 6.7 rebounds per contest.

Gardner-Webb currently sits at 2-6 on the season and has recorded wins over Warren Wilson and Brevard. David Efianayi leads the Runnin' Bulldogs offensively with 18.1 points per game while D.J. Laster averages a team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game to go with 15.1 points. Gardner-Webb is under the direction of fifth-year head coach Tim Craft.

The Spartans and Runnin' Bulldogs are meeting for the 22nd time in program history with Upstate holding a 12-9 lead in the all-time series. The teams are facing each other for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
