Upstate Travels to Georgia on Tuesday Evening

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team hits the road for the second time this season on Tuesday evening as the Spartans travel to Athens, Ga. for a 7 p.m. contest against the Georgia Bulldogs inside Stegeman Coliseum.

Upstate went 1-1 last weekend to open its season highlighted by an 85-66 victory over Allen in the home opener on Sunday. The win was the first for head coach Kyle Perry.

In the two games, the Spartans combined to have five players score over 10 points each led by Malik Moore who had 23 against Minnesota and 18 in the win against Allen. Moore was joined in double-figures by Jure Span, Mike Cunningham, Ramel Thompkins and Deion Holmes. Span scored a career-high 19 points at Minnesota and Thompkins compiled his third career-double-double. Thompkins added a 12-rebound effort in the home opener versus Allen.

Moore leads Upstate in scoring this season averaging 20.5 points per game while also pulling down 7.0 rebounds per contest. He is one of four Spartans averaging in double-figures to begin the year along with Span (18.0), Cunningham (12.5) and Holmes (10.5). Thompkins is averaging a team-best 11.0 rebounds per game while Moore dishes out 3.5 assists per game.

Georgia opened its season on Nov. 10 with a 79-54 victory over Bryant. The Bulldogs are led by Yante Maten with 21.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. Raysha Hammonds is contributing 17.0 points per game while William Jackson II adds 11.0 points. Georgia is under the direction of ninth-year head coach Mark Fox.

Upstate is facing the Bulldogs for the second time in program history and first since Nov. 14, 2008. Georgia won that game by a score of 72-48 in Athens.
