Boiling Springs, N.C. – Gardner-Webb scored five runs in the first four innings as the Runnin' Bulldogs claimed a 6-3 win over USC Upstate on Wednesday at John Henry Moss Stadium.

Gardner-Webb improves to 17-14 overall while USC Upstate drops to 15-15-1.

Scoring Breakdown

  • Bottom 1st – Mason Fox opened the inning with a single and scored on a Corey Howard base hit.
  • Bottom 2nd – Taber Mongero reached on a two-out walk and scored on a two-run Ben LaSpaluto home run.
  • Bottom 3rd – Mickey Dugan led off the inning with a single and scored on a groundout.
  • Bottom 4th – Chris Clary led off the inning with a single and scored on a Fox single.
  • Top 6thCharlie Carpenter led off the inning with a double. After Kyle Gensler was hit by a pitch, Carpenter and Gensler advanced a base thanks to a sacrifice bunt. Carpenter scored USC Upstate's first run of the game on a groundout.
  • Bottom 7th – Howard reached on a double with one out, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout.
  • Top 8th – Carpenter worked a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a Gensler single and scored on a Jake Bourke single.
  • Top 9thMason Stewart walked to start the inning and scored on a Gensler two-out single. The Spartans loaded the bases with two outs and had the go-ahead run at the plate before a strikeout ended the game.
