Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate track and field program announced today the recipients of its six team awards for the 2018 season, which ended recently at the NCAA East Preliminary in Tampa, Fla.
Sarah Hill was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer while Breondra Steele and Adanma Uzor were named Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer for the women's team. On the men's team, Tanner Saunders and Noah Walker were named Co-Most Outstanding Track Performer with Tony Auguste claiming Most Outstanding Field Performer honors.
Hill had an outstanding freshman season, setting school records in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash with ASUN Conference titles in both events. She was named the ASUN Women's Track and Field Most Outstanding Freshman Performer, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to claim the honor. Hill wrapped up the 2018 campaign with a 40th place finish in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA East Preliminaries, recording a time of 11.66. It is both her second-fastest personal time and the second quickest in program history.
Steele concluded her collegiate career with a fourth place finish in the high jump at the ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Her best mark in the event this season of 1.60 meters/5'3" came at the Terrier Relays on March 30. Steele recorded a season-best mark of 11.12 meters in the triple jump at the Terrier Relays.
Uzor scored a fifth place finish in the triple jump and a sixth place result in the high jump at the ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Championships. At the Weems Baskin Invitational, Uzor finished in second place in the triple jump invitational division with a season-best mark of 12.34 meters/40'6". Her top mark in the long jump came at the 49er Classic as she posted a mark of 5.75 meters/18'10.5".
Saunders finished third in the 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay along with a second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay at the ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Saunders qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries for the first time in his career in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 48th place.
Walker set a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.71 as he claimed a runner-up finish in the event at the ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Walker was also a part of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished in second place. Walker ran in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA East Preliminary and scored a 32nd place result with a time of 52.49.
Auguste finished in third place in the discus at the ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Championships, claiming Third Team All-Conference honors after his personal best throw of 142'8", which is the second-best in program history. He finished in fourth place in the hammer throw and sixth place in the shot put with season-best throws in each event.
