USC Upstate Basketball Ushers in 2018-19 Season with Midnight Madness

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's and women's basketball teams tipped off the 2018-19 season in style on Wednesday evening when the two teams hosted Midnight Madness from Eddie and Ann Payne Arena in the G.B. Hodge Center.

USC Upstate fans had their first opportunity to meet the teams and were treated to an entertaining evening that featured music from DJ Ace One, scrimmages from both teams and other various competitions.

The evening began with the introduction of both teams as well as two five-minute scrimmages. Players from both teams then competed in a 3-point competition followed by a slam dunk contest.

Men's basketball senior Pat Welch won the 3-point competition while sophomore Andrew Tate held off senior teammate Malik Moore and redshirt-sophomore Thomas Booker to capture the slam dunk contest.

Both teams begin their 2018-19 season on the road on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The women's team plays at Virginia Tech with a 7 p.m. tipoff while the men's team also plays at 7 p.m. against South Carolina.
