Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate baseball student-athlete Toran Shahidi and women's soccer student-athletes Delaney Bussey and Mia Raiff spent part of their Friday visiting with students from Bryson Middle School.
The three Spartans attended a pep rally recognizing the efforts of Bryson Middle student-athletes and extracurricular club members that participated in clubs from Bryson Middle and Hillcrest High School. They spoke about the benefits of working hard, setting goals, and how these topics impact their lives as NCAA Division I student-athletes.
"USC Upstate student-athletes make a huge impact by speaking to the students about the benefits of working hard and setting goals," Bryson Middle School PE teacher Carla Washington said. "The Spartans do an awesome job assimilating their speeches so the students can relate."
Quote from student-athletes reflecting on their experience at Bryson Middle School:
"It was really fun to see the kids react to what we were saying. They were passionate about sports and it was exciting to think about their futures to what schools they could end up at."
"It was a very fun environment and they were very welcoming. I was proud to represent Upstate and give them some tips to help them toward their future."
"It was very nice to be able to give back to the community and represent Upstate in a positive way. I'm thankful for the opportunity."
